 SPRINGSURE

Coming back from the gorges, we spent the night in Springsure.

These magnificent hills overlooking the campsite are called  virgin Rock and is lit up at night.

The next day we went to search for information about the town and we  met a very interesting fellow. His Name is Darryl Black and he is an Aboriginal guide with lots of local knowledge and takes you on an interesting tour.

All the rocks in the photos he found that have been shaped into tool such as axes and very sharp knives.

Darryl showed us the grinding stones that were used to grind the local seeds into flower to make damper.

This building was made as a keeping place for 3 Aboriginals and we were able to go inside to see them. They were covered in mud and bark as part of their ceremony after they have passed and taken back to where they were born. Unfortunately the place they were supposed to be taken as there keeping place had been burned and destroyed were not able to be left there, so they had made this keeping place just for them.

Driving back to Emerald we pass acres of cotton fields. The gate was left open so we could get up close. This was one of the least fields that had not been harvested yet.

Back in Emerald we had a BBQ by the dam and was accompanied by this lovely kookaburra
